Phillips County Health Systems (PCHS) is pleased to announce Kisha Patterson, APRN-C’s, commitment as an Emergency Department provider. With a robust and diverse background in emergency and rural healthcare, Kisha brings a deep passion for serving patients in small communities and a wealth of experience across multiple care settings.

Kisha began her nursing career in the high-acuity environment of the Emergency Department at Stormont in Eastern Kansas immediately after graduating from nursing school. "It seems that I was always drawn to the ER environment," she shared. "It was an amazing opportunity to learn how to care for patients during high-volume, high-intensity situations."

Following several years in a busy emergency setting, Kisha transitioned into roles within rural, critical access hospitals closer to home. Her nursing experience spans emergency care, obstetrics, medical-surgical units, and post-anesthesia care (PACU). She quickly discovered that rural healthcare wasn’t just a professional choice it was her calling. “I was raised in a small town and love the dynamic that comes with that,” she said. “Rural healthcare is my cup of tea. I enjoy caring for these communities where access to healthcare can be limited, but the need is always great.”

Over the past two years, Kisha has traveled across Kansas, providing emergency and inpatient care to approximately 20 different facilities. Her dedication to meeting the needs of underserved populations extended into her work as a hospice provider in Northeast Kansas, an urgent care APRN, and as an Assistant Professor at Baker University School of Nursing, where she taught mental health and health assessment.

Outside of her work in healthcare, Kisha leads a busy and active family life. She and her husband, who is an insurance agent with Farm Bureau, are raising five children—four daughters and one son, ranging in age from 14 to 2. Much of her time is joyfully spent supporting their involvement in wrestling, basketball, volleyball, and competitive dance. Together, the family manages a small herd of cattle and enjoys caring for their horses. Kisha loves riding and working with horses and is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast. Last year, she and her husband completed the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike and continue to travel together and with their kids for new hiking adventures. She even has a passion for wilderness survival.

“Kisha originally joined us on a temporary basis, helping cover shifts in our Emergency Department, and I was quickly impressed by the positive feedback I received from both patients and staff,” said Tara Overmiller, CEO of PCHS. “As a fellow mom of several young children, I admire her ability to manage the demanding nature of emergency medicine while remaining so deeply committed to her patients and her family. Her dedication, professionalism, and heart for rural care make her an incredible addition to our team.”

Please join Phillips County Health Systems in welcoming Kisha to the team as we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide compassionate, comprehensive care close to home.

Staffed around the clock, Phillips County Emergency Room Department is open seven days a week and 24 hours a day to provide first-line emergency care services and urgent care for sudden illness or injury outside of regular clinic service hours.
