COOPER NICKEL, M.D.

"

"Originally from the small town of Lindsborg, KS, I have a deep love for rural medicine. Getting to know a community on a personal level makes taking care of everyone extremely rewarding and satisfying.

As a Family Medicine Physician, part of the breadth of our training means we know a little bit about a lot of medicine. We are trained to treat newborns to the oldest of us all, which is what I love!"

Dr. Cooper Nickel always knew he wanted to be a family physician - to be the one to take care of an entire community and entire families from growing up with a father that is also a family physician and seeing the impact he had on his patients and the community he served.

As a family physician, Dr. Nickel enjoys the wide variety of patients that he is able to see in the clinic, hospital, and ER. He is also interested in expanding our telehealth services to assist patients outside of the clinic and increase access to quality healthcare. Dr. Nickel also has a special interest in sports medicine and ultra-sound guided injection and interventions. Some of his other focuses are medication-assisted

treatment for opioid use disorder and behavioral health.

In his free time, Dr. Nickel really enjoys cooking and baking and is always experimenting with

new techniques. He also enjoys weightlifting and golfing - he loves that Phillipsburg's golf course is right across from the hospital!

When asked what attracted him to Phillips County Health Systems, Dr. Nickel shared - "When Rex (PCHS CEO) came to my house to discuss the opportunity, he brought me a PCHS cooler bag full of local steaks. I knew right then that this was the right community for me! I have been coming to Phillipsburg to cover the ER occasionally for the past year and a half, and have always been so welcomed by the community and PCHS team. One of the medical providers let me use his golf cart every weekend I was covering the ER. (I just wish I got to use it more often!) One weekend while covering Phillipsburg ER, I spent an entire afternoon at Fort Bissell and marveled at the perseverance of the pioneers in this area."

Dr. Nickel is happily married to "his better half", Lynda, who is a Registered Nurse working on a medical/surgical unit. Together, they have two lovely children; Charlie and Piper. As a family, they love to get outside, travel, and check out any playground they happen across.

Transparency in Coverage Rule

Phillips County Health Systems complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws. Phillips County Health Systems does not discriminate, exclude, or treat individuals differently on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
